Rome, as well as Moscow, Varna, Jackson, Istanbul, Soci, Seul and Beijing, is also hosting one of the most prestigious international dance competitions. The Dance Award “Premio Roma Danza”, organized by the National Academy of Dance, holds its 11th edition from July 1st to July 5th 2012, chaired by Boris Akimov, Bolshoy.
Since 2011, the award “Premio Roma – International Dance Competition” will be alternating with the award “Premio Roma – International Choreography Competition” that will be held next year. Two twin events, one dedicated to performers, the other one dedicated to choreographers, inserted into an organic project by the National Academy of Dance, under the direction of Margherita Parrilla, to give space and perspectives not only to whom is dancing on the stage, but also to whom writes using bodies.
A double glance at classical and contemporary dance that does not forget traditions and remains faithful to our main goal: to promote young talents from allover the world by creating an exciting arena of challenge for them to increase their professional skills.
According to the new choreographic practice, “Premio Roma – International Dance Competion” consciously does not make distinctions between classical and contemporary dance.
This Award not only gives a strong signal of awakening and vitality and returns the place Italy deserves in the history of dance, but also promotes Rome, our culture, our huge and wonderful artistic heritage. Thanks to our Competition, Rome gains its place in the worldwide dance panorama and among the greatest capital cities of the world.
The National Academy of Dance presents a date with extraordinary international and national image potentials and makes available for contestants and audience its professional skills and the charming Award's location on the Aventino Hill, the organizing and reception center for young dancers from allover the world.
Past competitions Jury Chairmen's fame attests the prestige and the worth of our International Competition, increasing from year to year: Vladimir Vassiliev, Milorad Mickovic, Jean Babilee, Ekaterina Maximova, Violette Verdy, Maja Plissetskaja, Julio Bocca, Yuri Grigorovich, Liliana Cosi, Ushio Amagatsu (Choreography Competition) witness the importance of the Dance Award “Premio Roma Danza” for all dance fans.
Both professional and non-professional dancers, aged from 14 to 24, may participate in our International Competition in two different sections, juniors and seniors.
As usual, the award ceremony and the winners' gala concert will be broadcasted by RAI UNO State TV Channel.
All the selection rounds will be open to the public: from July 1st to July 4th, starting from 7:00 pm. The Gala performance on July 5th, is on invitation.
